Cultural Collision: Utahns in Sin City
There ay not be a more entertaining crossover of cultures that Utahns visiting Las Vegas. It's like watching the ULTIMATE yin and yang play out in front of our eyes. On one side, you've got conservative, soda loving, early to bed Utah families who will usually pack snacks and meals for road trips, while saying things like "Oh my heck!" While on the other side you've got flashing lights, 24-hour everything, and a city literally nicknamed SIN CITY!
The Journey: From Southern Utah to Vegas
The drive from Southern Utah to Vegas is only about two hours, but culturally, it may as well be another planet! You can always spot the Utahns the minute they hit the Strip! They walk a little faster, they don't let their eyes avert, and they're probably wearing a royal blue BYU shirt. Meanwhile, they're absolutely fascinated by everything. They'll say they're only in town for a show or dinner, but they'll end up walking through casinos and taking photos in front of fountains.
Wholesome Meets Wild: Utahns' Vegas Adventures
The funny part is, Utahns only PRETEND to be shocked by Vegas, but they secretly love the chaos (in small doses.) They'll clutch their pearls at a nightclub flyer, and then absolutely destroy a buffet. They're not going to touch a slot machine, but maybe spend 45 minutes thinking about it.
It's wholesome meets crazy. Minivan meets Lambo. Temple recommend meets roulette table.
