Ford Issues MASSIVE Recall: Thousands of Utahns Affected!
Major Ford Recall: What You Need to Know
If you drive a truck in Utah, there's a pretty high chance that this recall could hit close to home. Ford has announced a major nationwide recall that has affected 4.3 million pickup trucks and SUVs due to a software issue that could impact exterior lights and trailer brakes. This definitely matters in a state like Utah where towing trailers, campers, and boats is just a part of everyday life.
According to Ford, this recall covers several popular models like the 2021-2026 Ford F-150, 2022-2026 F-F250 Super Duty, Expedition, Maverick, and certain Ranger models, E-Transit vans and the Lincoln Navigator. The problems involve the vehicles Integrated Trailer Module, which may lose communication with the vehicle when it starts. If that happens while towing, trailer brake lights, turn signals, or even braking functions may fail, which can create a potentially dangerous situation or two on the road.
Understanding the Risks: Malfunctioning Trailer Systems
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations says the malfunctioning trailer lights or brakes can strongly reduce the driver's ability to control a trailer, which increases the risk for a crash. Ford reports more than 400 incidents that are potentially connected to this issue, though officials claim they are not aware of any crashes caused by the defect yet.
Why This Recall Matters for Utah Drivers
While this is a national recall, it's relevant for Utah drivers, particularly in Southern Utah where Ford trucks can be found everywhere. From contractors hauling equipment, to families towing their boats to Sand Hollow, their campers to Zion, or those off-roaders pulling side by sides into the sand dunes, towing a part of daily life in Southern Utah. The Ford F-150 and Super Dutys are among the most common vehicles on Utah roads, meaning thousands of Southern Utah drivers could potentially be affected.
