Despite being in a “rebuild” the past two seasons, the Utah Jazz have started those two seasons with somewhat of a competitiveness.

Last season Utah at least had one win the first four games of the year.

The year before that Utah began the year as one of the hottest teams in the association behind a 10-3 start, and was actually the first team in the NBA to get to ten wins.

Clearly neither season ended in any way that would indicate a playoff contender in the Jazz going 8 games below .500 in the 2022-2023 season and 20 games under .500 last season.

The trend of getting worse on a yearly basis seems to be in full swing this year as the Jazz have decided to bypass a win altogether 4 games into the season after falling to the Sacramento Kings last night at the Delta Center, 113-96.

Not only have the Jazz fully committed to the best lottery odds possible early on they’ve done so in impressive fashion.

For starters, here’s some stats in which Utah demonstrates their struggles handily.

Let me sum this up for you as easily as I possibly can.

The Jazz cant effectively do any of the following things: Shoot, score, pass, hold onto the ball or defend.

Hmm, I guess 0-4 isn’t such a surprise after all.

But at least the locker room is looking gorgeous!

After the slow start, here’s your history lesson of the day in regards to a 0-4 start to the season.

The Jazz have stumbled out of the gate dropping their first four games only 3 other times in franchise history.

The first time was 1974, also known as the inaugural season of the New Orleans Jazz.

The 74-75 season saw the new guys not only start 0-4, but 0-11, going 1-14 in their first ever 15 games.

This team finished with the worst record in Jazz history at 23-59.

The second time such a slow start occurred was another transition year, when the team relocated to Salt Lake City in 1979.

The 79-80 team would win their 5th game after a 0-4 start but were a lousy 2-13 in their first 15 games in Utah.

That same season also featured an impressive 14 game losing streak and produced the 2nd worst overall record in team history, 24-58.

The 3rd time the Jazz experienced a winless jump out of the gate of four or more games would be much more recent, and didn’t have the excuse of being an “inaugural” season for two different cities.

That year was 2013.

The 2013-2014 season witnessed Utah go winless 8 games into the season, and start the first 15 games with only one win for a shiny 1-14 record just like the 1974 team.

Unsurprisingly, that season would result in the 3rd worst record in Jazz history, 25-57.

The three worst record’s in the teams history as a whole are also the only three seasons in which the Jazz have started 0-4.

Coincidence? I think not.

What this team ultimately accomplishes in the win-loss column may surprise you, but history does tend to repeat itself, or so they say.

Are the Jazz doomed to tie any of these records? Break them?

We shall see, but for the fans of the Jazz, a team with the 4th highest winning percentage in NBA history, a record breaking year in the loss column would only be cured by the coveted #1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft.
