Linebackers aren't supposed to do the things that Fred Warner did in yesterdays NFC Championship.

I understand there is a new age of linebacker who can drop back in a zone and make plays  like Brian Urlacher used to for the Bears. But Warner made a play yesterday in 1-on-1 coverage against one of the premiere receivers in the league and the best on the Dallas Cowboys, Ceedee Lamb.

WATCH:

Fred Warner takes an unbelievable play here to save a touchdown. For all of the credit he gets for being a run-stopping linebacker, this is maybe the most impressive part of his game.

I don't know how many times Urlacher chased down a #1 receiver like Warner does here and save an easy score in a playoff game.

Here's Warner again he is right before halftime in the NFC Championship making an interception:

These are the types of ball hawing plays BYU fans remember from his time at BYU. In fact, this might be the most remarkable play he made while with the Cougars:

But Warner is regarded as one of the best run stuffing backers in the league. Here is Eammanuel Acho's breakdown of a play Warner made against the Seahawks, when they were trying to run away from him. Warner is able read the pulling lineman and scrape all the way to the the other hash to the other sideline to help brink down Kenneth Walker III.

Kelly Poppinga, who BYU just re-hired to join their staff, is the one who got Fred Warner to BYU. Cougar fans are praying Poppinga can bring in more dudes like this.

LOOK: The story behind every NFL team name

Stacker delved into the story behind every NFL football team name. Overall team records, also included, are reflective of NFL regular-season games. There are some football teams with well-known nicknames—the Jets, for instance, are often referred to as Gang Green—but we also divulge how some teams’ official names are sparingly used (the Jets’ neighbors, the Giants, are actually known as the New York Football Giants). Sometimes a team name can tell you a lot about local history: The Vikings of Minnesota draw upon the area’s strong ties to Scandinavia, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are dripping in local legend related to Florida’s pirate past.

Let’s kick off the countdown with the folks who earned their nickname by buying boxes of used team jerseys.
