Utah 4A Hoops: Top Scorers from Quarterfinals
The first set of games at Utah Valley University did not disappoint.
Both the Boys and Girls brackets were chockful of games down to the wire.
3 of the 4 boys’ games were single digit ballgames, and despite only 1 of the 4 girls games finishing in single digits, 3 of them were back and forth for the majority of the night.
Epic games require epic performances, and we have your top 5 scorers from last night right here:
- ANNALYSE SHIMADA- CEDAR- 22 POINTS
A 23-point halftime lead evaporated down the stretch for the #3 Lady Reds in their battle with Green Canyon.
The Lady Wolves furious comeback made Cedar dig deep for the victory and they wouldn’t have been able to do so if it wasn’t for Shimada.
For Annalyse, a lot her work came from inside the arc, with one three made. She was a force inside and a necessity for Cedar to move on to face #2 Snow Canyon in the semifinals.
That is back-to-back games with 20 or more points for Shimada (20 VS Provo, 22 VS Green Canyon) who shows no signs of slowing down.
- EMILEE SKINNER- RIDGELINE- 22 POINTS
No big surprises here. Another dominant Ridgeline win, another Skinner masterclass.
Emilee rolled to a 22-point performance in a double-double performance while hitting two from downtown.
#1 Ridgeline dismantled #9 Dixie to the tune of 66-22, making their average margin of victory in the postseason an impressive 53 points.
Skinner now has three straight games of 29, 22 and 27 pts while hitting two threes in all those matchups.
One of those was a triple double to pair with last night’s double double.
Don’t be surprised to see this trend continue for as long as Ridgeline is on the court, Skinner had a 13-game streak of 20 points or more from December 14th to January 23rd.
Only the #5 Payson Lady Lions stand in the way of another Ridgeline state finals appearance now.
- JARED ANDERSON- GREEN CANYON- 23 PTS
A back-and-forth Region 11 rematch lived up to the billing with the #4 Wolves escaping in a 67-64 point ball game.
Anderson was the leading scorer on the night and a certified bucket getter.
The three ball was falling in Orem as Green Canyon nailed 13 triples, 5 of which were courtesy of Anderson, 6 coming from his teammate Layker Ward.
All in all, the Wolves had ten more three pointers made over Ridgeline, a key component in dispatching the Riverhawks.
That’s the 5th game straight in which Anderson has seen at least one three drop, and his second game in that span with 5 threes made.
- OWEN MACKAY- SNOW CANYON- 23 POINTS
Coming off a 45-point outing in a narrow win over Mountain View, Mackay pulled off arguably an even more impressive feat.
Behind Mackay’s 23 points, #7 Snow Canyon became the first region 9 team to beat the #2 Dixie Flyers in 13 tries, propelling them into the semifinals.
Make no mistake, Snow Canyon’s win was a team effort through and through, no one player defeated the Flyers alone, but a game high 23 points goes a long way.
Owen hasn’t scored less than 20 points since December 29th, a 15-game streak.
In that span, Owen has averaged 27.6 points per game and now has averages of 34 points a night In the postseason.

- OLIVIA HAMLIN- SNOW CANYON- 36 PTS
You knew this one was coming.
The best scoring performance of the night came from none other than Olivia Hamlin.
Locked in a 4-point game come the 4th quarter, Hamlin helped the #2 Lady Warriors surge ahead of a pesky #7 Sky View team.
Helped may be an understatement, as Hamlin guaranteed the Lady Bobcats wouldn’t be pulling off any upset specials.
When the dust settled at a 52-40 final, Hamlin accounted for nearly 70 percent of the entirety of Snow Canyon’s points with her 36.
In true fashion, it came from a defensive standpoint of fast break opportunities off of steals, it came from weaving inside, offensive rebounds and definitely from deep as Hamlin buried 5 triples, one less than the entirety of Sky View’s team.
Six straight games, Hamlin has put up 29 points or more. 5 of those 6 have eclipsed the 30 or more mark.
Take those games and Hamlin is on a 31.7 point per game tear, playing some of her best ball of the year, which is no easy feat.
With Olivia playing at the clip she is, the Lady Warriors have to be feeling good heading into their matchup with region 9 foe, #3 Cedar.
