Utah Governor Wants Cellphones Banned in Schools
Governor Spencer Cox wants to get rid of cellphones in schools.
According to KUTV.com:
"Cox unveiled the proposal during a news conference at the Utah State Capitol, arguing the ban would have a major impact on students’ learning and well-being.
'“I am convinced more than ever that a bell-to-bell cell phone ban is the single most important thing that we can do for our students in our schools today,” Cox said." (LINK TO FULL ARTICLE)
I love this idea. I wish we could ban cellphones in movie theaters, Applebees, on my couch at home when I'm trying to show my wife how good Seinfeld is...
I know schools around the state have rules about cellphones being "put away" but they always find a way out. You can try and have a shelf you put them but if they're in the room, the kid will figure out a way to get it back.
That's how I am at home. Sometimes I put my phone on top of the fridge so I can look my kid in the face but within 17 seconds I have an urgent reason for needing my phone..."what was the name of the third lead in Backdraft??"
"Supporters of the bill said schools that have already gone phone-free are seeing positive results, including improved attendance and stronger social interactions among students."(LINK TO FULL KUTV ARTICLE)
Don't allow them in the school. There are those who want pouches or shelves. Knowing your phone is close or having hope that you might be able to get it is still distracting. Leave them at home!
