Utah Ute Gets Drafted in First Round

It's rare for the University of Utah to get a receiver or tight end drafted.

You have to go back to Kaelin Clay in 2015 who got drafted in the sixth round by Tampa Bay.

That's eight years ago!

Clay was the guy who dropped the ball against Oregon:

If you look at first round draft picks from Utah, the only pass-catcher ever drafted in the first round was Kevin Dyson.

Dyson was drafted 16th overall by the Titans in 1998.

That means that when tight end Dalton Kincaid was drafted in the first round last night by the Buffalo Bills, it was pretty historic for Utah.

Draft rumors had Kincaid going as early as 13th to the Packers, other mock drafts had him going to the Cowboys, and others to the Chargers.

Buffalo Bills' general manager Brandon Beane was effusive in his praise for Kincaid after the pick:

"We think he'll pair well with Dawson [Knox] and give us another target in the middle of the field," Beane said. "When he's in the game we're gonna get nickel as if we're in 11 [personnel]."

That might be the biggest compliment about the big route runner. The fact that defenses are basically going to have to treat him like a receiver who they have to guard with a defensive back. That will give Josh Allen and the Bills a big advantage in those situations.

Knox is thought to be a better blocker than Kincaid and will be their in-line tight end in run situations.

I think it's an awesome landing spot for Kincaid, pairing him with one of the best quarterbacks in the game.
