WATCH: Utah’s Delta Center Can’t Catch a Break
The Delta Center has stood as a crown jewel in Salt Lake City since 1991.
Built in just over 15 months, the arena has welcomed fans from all over the world for some of the biggest and brightest events.
Although home of the NBA’s Utah Jazz and the NHL’s Utah Hockey Club, the arena has seen everything one could imagine would take place in a stadium.
NBA All-Star events, NBA Finals, NCAA March Madness tournament games, Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Disney on Ice, Monster Jam, Circuses and Olympic events are some of the largest examples of what has gone on in the house that Larry built.
According to visitsaltlake.com, The Delta Center see’s “about 1.8 million guests and more than 100 sports and entertainment events each year.”
This month alone will see the venue host 7 NBA games, 1 NBA G-League game, 5 NHL games, 8 Disney on Ice shows within 3 days, a comedian (Shane Gillis) and a concert (Kelsea Ballerini).
The NHL wrinkle is brand new for the Delta Center with this being the inaugural season of the Utah Hockey Cub.
With both the Utah Jazz and Hockey Club playing 82 game seasons in the same months (September-April) the 34 year old building is busier than ever.
Already with more than 30 NHL games under their belt the Delta Center will continuously go through multiple renovations in the coming years to make it more hockey friendly.
Visitsaltlake.com states that close to $25 million have already been poured into the facility in the last 5 years alone, meaning one of the most recognizable buildings in Utah will be getting even more polish and shine.
As much of a benefit as that is for fans of entertainment here in Utah, it’s also a necessity with the extreme usage that goes on, especially in the winter months.
For example, the arena just went 11 consecutive days hosting a grand total of 12 events.
From February 21st, a Utah Jazz loss to Oklahoma City, to March 3rd, another Jazz loss this time to Detroit, the Delta Center has been going non-stop.
7 NBA games, 1 NBA G-League game and 4 NHL games all In 11 days, including a double header of NBA G-League and NBA action.
As crazy as that sounds, it gets crazier when you witness it.
Watch all the transitioning from game to game unfurl in real time right here:
The home town crowd may have only witnessed 6 wins out of the 12 games, largely anchored by the Hockey Club winning three of their four, but that arena was rocking in at least 11 of those 12 games (sorry Stars.)
The sheer amount of fans mixed with tight time frames to get the arena ready night after night means that the whole Delta Center crew was locked in.
When you see a time lapse like this demonstrating the impressive versatility of a venue, remember it’s the people behind the scenes who make the magic happen.
So next time you visit, whether watching the Jazz struggle to not turn the ball over, or witnessing the Hockey Club make a playoff push, remember the work that goes into the event and throw that J. Dawgs wrapper away, pick up that beer cup, finish your Swig and put it in the trash.
Those small efforts make it all the easier for the venue you cherish to put up another stellar performance as soon as the very next day.
