What X Had To Say About Utah’s Canning of Craig Smith
When the University of Utah Basketball Program decided to split ways with Men’s basketball coach, Craig Smith, many were confused.
In the midst of his 4th season at the U and the first year in Utah’s new conference, the Big 12, Smith had his team playing stellar ball.
The recent stretch consisted of beating a ranked Kansas squad and taking down a Kansas State team who had won 6 of their last 7 Big 12 games all next to a tightly contested loss in Orlando against UCF.
Sure, at the time of the firing on the 24th of February, Utah was far from perfect and was on the outside looking in when it came to the tournament.
With a record three games above .500 at 15-12 and a 7-9 conference record, Smith was putting together another consistent year and the 2nd best of his career in Salt Lake City.
But this time he was doing it in one of the most competitive conferences in all of college basketball, not bad for a team who hadn’t been above .500 in 5 straight years of Pac-12 play.
Regardless, a 65-62 overall record as the Runnin Utes main man mixed with zero tournament appearances wasn't the resume that Utah sought, and decided to let him go with 4 games remaining in the season.
With such instant and unexpected news, we did what any rational human being did and took to the social media pages to see how people responded.
From respected personalities to rival fans and former Smith followers at Utah State, here’s how X handled Coach Smith’s forced exit.
In a sea of opinions, the aftermath is pretty mixed.
Right or wrong, all that's next is determining who will lead the team into battle next season as the Utes search for their first tournament appearance since the 2015-2016 season.
