Sometime around Home Alone 2 (that's the one with the weirdo bird lady), people started putting up "white" Christmas lights.

It seemed like a sane thing to do because the white lights go with anything.

Now, there's lights of all colors and combinations people are putting up.They're going with blue and purple and candy-cane and everything like that.

I am a traditionalist. And what that means to me is putting up lights like the people had up in A Christmas Story:

The light combo is blue, green, orange, white, red.

When you Google "classic Christmas lights" this is what comes up:

So to me, that's Christmas.

BUT...according to my first party research, the most popular Christmas lights in Southern Utah this year are...candy cane lights. These are the red and white combo.

It seems like 65% of houses have gone this route. They look great it just doesn't have the classic feel that I'm after.

According to AmericanHolidayLights.com:

"For a bold and festive look, red lights are a great choice. Red is the color of Christmas, after all. These lights can help to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. They are also a great way to show your holiday spirit. If you want your home to be the talk of the neighborhood, then red lights are the way to go."

What kind of Christmas light person are you?

Do you go crazy and do the entire surface area of your property or do you mail it in and do one string across the garage?

Let me know in the comments.
