Scam calls have increased in the last year with people in the U.S. getting 2.5 billion robocalls every month. The numbers registered with the Do Not Call Registry have increased by 258 million. How is Utah impacted by these numbers? 

Less Spam Scam Happening in Utah 

Here’s a look at all the states and the number of spam calls that are happening along with data on how much money was lost. Utah is the second lowest for the number of scam calls per 100,000 residents. Only North Dakota was lower. 

That would be good news if it still didn’t show that there still is a problem. California, which is the highest, lost 2.2 million dollars to scammers in 2025. Our neighbor, Arizona, lost $681k to phone scams.

Demographic Scammers Target Explains Utah’s Lower Numbers 

Robocall scams look for vulnerable older populations. They also look for heavier populated areas with higher incomes. This explains why the beehive state is targeted as often for these scam calls. 

Utah skews younger, and the population density is relatively low. This would be true for places like North and South Dakota which are also low. Here are some ways to protect yourself from scam calls.

Don’t reply to weird random texts. If something sounds too good to be true, it is. Don’t believe what you see on caller ID, and don’t click on links that get emailed or texted to you. Using your call blocking tools on your phone can also be a big help.
