I purchased a smart controller for my sprinklers and received a rebate that meant it cost me absolutely nothing. Check out the Utah Water Savers site to see what rebates are available for those replacing old controllers this year.

I purchased a B-hyve from Orbit that was priced at $69 which I received a full rebate for. I was surprised to discover when I installed it, that it has no digital display. The way to set watering times is on an app on my phone.

Superior to My Old Controller

There was also a way to do it on the computer. At first this concerned me, but I soon came to appreciate being able to manipulate it on the app. I can start the sprinklers from anywhere, even standing over it to see if it is broken.

I found it easy to use and it gave me so many more options for watering. I have a spot on my lawn that slopes, and the water runs off onto the sidewalk after 3 minutes running. With this new timer, I can set far more watering times staggered at 3 minutes each, and keeps the water from flowing away down the gutter. 

Doesn't Run the Sprinklers in the Rain

It hooks up to my Wi-Fi and there is a smart watering feature that monitors weather conditions. Even if I don’t have it on the smart feature, it will still hold off if it sees rain in the forecast.

This is pretty cool, but I do have to keep an eye on it. Some weeks there will be rain predicted every day but it doesn't actually rain where I am. Too long and the grass starts looking pretty dry. You can always override the rain delay and water manually.
