Make Your Wifi Sing With This Simple Nevada Trick
We rely on our Wi-Fi for so many things today. I remember sitting in a school class while an adult student learning about online meetings. I was chuckling because, while I was trying to learn more about business, I truly doubted that I would be doing business overseas. Just a few years later we are facing the COVID pandemic, and suddenly all of us are online all the time.
Dave and even rely on our Wi-Fi for our morning show, so what once was a luxury is now essential to our everyday living.
The other day we took a drive to Pahrump Nevada for fun and learned some easy tips to improve our Wi-Fi from Josh Osborne at Great Computer Deals. Here is what we learned:
Strong Wi-Fi starts with a good Internet Service Provider or ISP:
Look for a dependable company in your area. If you are not sure ask friends and neighbors —especially if they are active online. Those people are often pretty passionate about who they use, sometimes to the point of annoying. "Yeah, uncle ted I get it now please get out of the tree house so I can shut the upstairs window and get some sleep."
Choose a good Package:
Most ISPs offer a variety of packages. If you stream video calls, movies, and frequently browse the internet, Josh suggests 20-50 Megabits per second (Mbps) as the minimum.
The Router:
This one probably needs my attention. I tend to get sentimental about older things, pictures of my kids, old favorite shoes and the chance to snuggle with my router. Josh says if your router is older than 5 years you would benefit from upgrading to a new one. Also choose name brand.
Router Placement:
Put your router somewhere central in the house. If you can put it high, lower down can block the signal more. Beware of devices that can cause electrical interference like a microwave, metal objects, or thick walls. I better move mine from inside the floor microwave, I like it there where I can heat up a snack and check the signal at the same time.
