How to Get Money from Washington County To Remove the Grass in Your Yard

Mowing grass in the triple digit heat of Southern Utah is not fun. It makes you start thinking about replacing your lawn with plants that don’t require a lawn mower. If you want to convert your yard to something more water efficient, the county might be able to help. 

Money Paid for Every Square Foot of Grass That is Removed 

The Washington County Conservancy District has a program to help cover the cost of removing water intensive grass with a more efficient landscaping. If you take out up to 5,000 square feet of grass, they will chip in $2 of the cost for every square foot. 

For more than 5,000 square feet they will pay $1 per square foot of the cost. You need to remove at least 300 square feet to qualify, and there are some things to understand before you go out and start digging up the green stuff. 

The WCWCD Wants to Encourage Impermeable Surfaces 

There are a series of questions answered on the website for the Water Conservancy District that help clarify how to qualify for the money and give you an idea of what they are looking for. They don’t want you to replace your grass with something that will not allow water to soak in. 

If you are planning artificial grass, it needs to be water soluble. You will not qualify for the money if you replace your yard with concrete or a driveway. There are many more questions answered on the site.
