An interactive map showing “America’s Drunkest and Driest Counties” has some surprises and some information you would have easily guessed. You would probably suspect what state has the driest county and even which one it would be.

This Looks at the Percentage of Excessive Drinkers in the Area

This map doesn’t show whether people occasionally drink or if there are laws regulating the sale of liquor, it looks and how many people in the population drink excessively. And you can probably guess the state with the lowest percentage is Utah.

The county in Utah that has the least number of excessive drinkers and actually leads the United States for lowest percentage isn’t a surprise either. It is Utah County, home of the driest university in the country with BYU.

Somebody Check on Wisconsin

The interactive map does show some surprises, like what is happening in Wisconsin? They don’t have the highest drinking county, that belongs to Montana, but the state is almost all red and purple on the excessive drinking side.

The other surprise is New Mexico. This state is almost all green showing mostly lower drinking counties. I don’t have any reason to not believe this state’s reporting, but it makes me wonder if there might be discrepancies.

Take a look at the map and see what you think. It might give you pause if you plan on driving through some of the heavier drinking counties in the future
