Early Morning Visitor Haunts Restaurant Employee

Weird sounds and falling chairs have been reported at a local business in St. George. Angelica’s at 100 East and St. George Blvd. has experienced the paranormal since opening at this location.

An employee, that goes in early in the morning, has reported hearing sounds when the sky is still dark. At one point he heard thuds in the dining area. Another time it sounded like a mop bucket was getting dragged across the tile. Then things seemed to get taken up a notch.

One morning a chair that was stored upside down on the table fell with a clatter. He reported what happened to the restaurant manager who suggested that the next time something like that happened, they would check the security cameras to see what was recorded.

Not too long after that, a sign listing the store’s hours was tossed from its place on the glass window at the front. Sure enough, when they checked the camera, that is what happened. You can see it here.  Pay attention to the right side of the screen.

In talking with Jack Lancaster who owns the restaurant with his wife Angelica, he said the store sits on land that was once Cottam’s farm back in the late 1800’s. He said back then there was a man who was hanged from a cottonwood on the property.

Thomas Forrest was a miner in Silver Reef back in 1880. He was let go by his supervisor, a man name Michael Carbis. Forrest sought revenge and stabbed the man in the street killing him and leaving his wife and children without a husband or father.

The other miners were incensed, and for the man’s protection, the Silver Reef lawman brought Forrest to St. George. That didn’t stop the miners who later rode to St. George where they confronted the local Sherriff, took his keys, and removed Forrest from the jail.

They then took him nearby to Cottam’s farm and hanged him from the cottonwood out front. When they cleared out, the sheriff took his body down and buried him in the St. George cemetery.

Is it possible this is who is making the early morning noises at Angelica's?
