Small Scale Brings Wind Energy Closer

Last summer was hot and there were some days when we were asked to avoid using appliances with high electricity needs during the afternoon. This was because of Southern Utah’s reliance on energy that is also used by California.

This makes the ability to find alternate ways to create energy and especially something that can provide it directly to your home or business should the power dip more important. You can’t put some giant windmill in your yard, but this aeroleaf micro wind turbine might be an answer.

The Latest in Power Generation

New World Wind is a company out of Europe that has a unique design of small turbines that look like leaves and sit on a tree like structure. They look good, they are quiet, and they can put 3.1 Kilowatts directly into your home or business.

The installation isn’t hard to do, and it can provide energy from even very small breezes. On the other hand, it is sturdy enough to withstand winds up to 129 miles per hour. Even better, it doesn’t knock birds out of the sky or fry them in a heat ray.

The price doesn’t look cheap. From the website, it looks like each turbine is about $700 each. That is pricey. A whole tree could cost around $50,000. However, if they start selling them like crazy, that price will come down.

So, everyone in California and Utah needs to get out there and buy one, and soon, I’ll be able to afford it. I love this concept that brings power closer to home and I hope it continues to inspire others to design new micro generating systems.
