Chapter 3 Establishing Order Installment 17

Nearly a year went by and the demons in the cave grew quickly. They began to practice cursing each other as they had seen the large demon do to Succubus on the day of Summoning. They would face each other with their hands out and try to push the other off their feet. Of course, no air rushed forward, and they just ended up shoving each other physically.

“It won’t be long now till you learn to curse for real,” said Ansu to Succubus. He had stayed to watch one of these contests.

“What is it like in the Caves of Learning?” asked Succubus, curiously.

“Full of demons of all ages,” Ansu answered. Then looking at Succubus thoughtfully. “You are unlike them.”

“What do you mean? Don’t other demons roast their food?”

Ansu smiled, “Just you and me. If the instructors see you, they will give you a beating for using fire.”

Succubus remembered when Bune had cuffed him and removed the torch. Was it true all other demons ate the roots raw? He pictured the horde raging on the night of Summoning. No wonder they were all screaming. Must have been all that bitter food.

“I would rather stay in this cave,” said Succubus, looking around at his group.

Ansu eyed him solemnly. “You will thrive with proper instructions,” he said. “In a short time, you will become a talented curser.” Here the older demon closed his eyes and began to sway. “But you have more to do. You are marked for something greater.”

Succubus didn’t know what to think. Ansu seemed a little off, maybe too old.

“Keep roasting your food,” said Ansu, handing him a large mushroom. The old demon turned and walked out the entrance, leaning forward in his shuffling gate

There you have it. The seventeenth piece of the book. Let me know if you enjoyed this, want more, or anything else I can do to make it easier to read.
