Grand Canyon National Park (GRCA) is inviting public input on a proposed increase to frontcountry camping fees, set to take effect on April 1, 2025. The adjustments would affect overnight stays at Mather, Desert View, and North Rim campgrounds, marking the first fee changes in 20 years.

Currently, campers pay $18 per night for standard tent or RV sites, with Senior and Access pass holders enjoying a 50% discount. Under the new proposal, the nightly rate would increase to $30, or $15 with the discount. Fees for equestrian, group, and walk-up sites will remain unchanged.

The preferred method for public comments on the proposal can be submitted online at parkplanning.nps.gov/GRCA_Campground_Fee_Increase or via mail to Grand Canyon National Park, Visitor Resource and Protection, PO Box 129, Grand Canyon, AZ 86023. The comment period ends December 15, 2024.

Recreation fees play a crucial role in National Park operations. Under the Federal Lands and Recreation Enhancement Act, GRCA retains 80% of the revenue it collects. These funds support projects aimed at enhancing visitor services, improving facilities, and ensuring safety. Recent years have highlighted the park’s heavy use, with over 4.7 million visitors in 2023, including 159,019 overnight tent stays and 84,332 RV stays.

The park's economic impact is substantial, with visitor spending in 2023 contributing $1 billion to local communities and supporting 10,100 jobs. Maintaining infrastructure, including campgrounds, is vital to sustaining these benefits.
