Cedar City Music Arts Hosts Spanish Brass For Students And Community This Week
Cedar City Music Arts will bring Spanish Brass to Cedar City on Tuesday, October 6, giving Iron County school students an opportunity to experience live music up close before the group takes the stage for the public that evening.
Marty Warburton, a board member with Cedar City Music Arts, said approximately 750 Iron County School District students will gather at the Heritage Center Theater Tuesday morning for a private performance and an opportunity to interact with the musicians.
Warburton Says Iron County Students Get Up Close And Personal Experience
“Tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, there's going to be 750 Iron County School District school kids at the Heritage with a one-on-one session, Q&A, a private concert, and a way to connect with music live and in person,” Warburton said during an interview on the Big Picture Morning Show on KSUB radio. “Not on a screen, not on a iPad, not on earbuds, live right before your eyes. Music magically made out of thin air.”

Warburton said the student presentations have grown in popularity in recent years, giving students a chance to experience performances they might not otherwise encounter. He said the students have responded well to the opportunity.
“They're so well-behaved and so attentive and they ask great questions,” he said. “And hopefully that sparks an interest where they go pick up a French horn or a, I don't know, what's another brass instrument, Chris?”
Spanish Brass, a brass ensemble from Spain, will perform for the public at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Heritage Center Theater. This will be the group's third appearance in Cedar City.
Warburton said the fact that Spanish Brass is already in town provides some relief after the planning and logistics involved in bringing an international performing group to Cedar City.

“There's so many plates in the air with logistics and airports and transportation and unforeseen circumstances,” he said. “So yeah, it's anticipation and anxiety.”
Cedar City Music Arts is in its 97th season and has seven more artists scheduled following Tuesday's performance, continuing into May.

Warburton said the organization is working to make performances accessible and affordable while bringing nationally and internationally recognized performers to Southern Utah.
“It is a small market, and the fact that we have these A-list performers coming through here, it's quite an opportunity,” he said.
Tickets for Tuesday night's performance are available through Cedar City Music Arts, the Heritage Center Theater box office and the theater's website. Season ticket packages are also available.
Warburton said the performances provide more than entertainment, offering an opportunity for people to get out, spend time together and experience live music in their community.
