CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University and head men's basketball coach Rob Jeter are excited to announce the addition of assistant coach Shaun Gutting.

Gutting comes to Southern Utah by way of Casper College, where he was the head coach for the last four years. In his first year as the head coach he went 32-3 and won the Region IX championship and made an appearance at the NJCAA Championship tournament. In his first three seasons with Casper College, Gutting had nine players sign Division I scholarships after playing for him. In 2020 Gutting was selected to participate in the TopConnect Leaders inaugural class: NJCAA Symposium, for young, up-and-coming college coaches.

Coach Jeter said this on Gutting. "Shaun is a proven winner as a college head coach. He's a high level recruiter and has run a successful junior college program. Shaun is organized and experienced. His in-game decision-making will be valuable. Shaun also has strong knowledge of the transfer market which is very important."

As a head coach, Gutting has a record of 56-27. He has had a Junior College All-American, an Honorable Mention, four All-Region Players, and six All-Conference players during his time as a head coach.

"Shaun has experience winning basketball games, and that is what he is here to help us do." Said Jeter.

Before Casper, Gutting was an assistant coach at New Mexico Junior College. In Gutting's five seasons at NMJC, the program posted a record of 106-54 with three regional and one national tournament appearances.

While at NMJC, he coached 10 All-Conference players, and the program sent 30 players on to Division I universities in the Big 12 Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Mountain West Conference, West Coast Conference, Conference USA, Pac-12 Conference, Sun Belt Conference, Western Athletic Conference, and the Southland Conference.
