People moving into Utah is a topic that comes up in conversations more and more. One of the results of the pandemic was that people were learning to work remotely, and didn't necessarily need to be chained to large, urbanized areas to continue to generate the income they had come accustomed to.

So, Utah became one of the destinations people were choosing as you can see by population reports from the U.S. Census Bureau.

When you think of the lifestyles of the rich and not necessarily that famous, big city names might come to mind. Places like San Francisco, Beverly Hills, New York City would probably all be included in a list of people associated with wealth.

But some smaller areas are also becoming associated with those living a luxurious lifestyle. Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Aspen, Colorado come to mind in that category.

But what about here in Utah? Do we have any areas that are attracting wealth people to the state?

I know what you're thinking. Park City, right? Well, no doubt there are people living there. When high profile political candidates come to Utah for fundraising purposes, they almost always have a tete-a-tete with folks in Park City.

But what about the small towns of Utah? I know, you may be thinking that Park City isn't that big of a town, but what about places even smaller than that?

The folks at Go Banking Rates set out to answer that question and came up with a list of “Richest Small Towns in Every State.” I have to tell you, I have never heard of the small town in Utah that made the list. First, here are the parameters that Go Banking Rates used in compiling the list.

In this study, GOBankingRates analyzed U.S. Census Bureau income data in locations in every state with 500 to 15,000 households to determine the wealthiest small towns in America.

Now, with a population of 8,200, Park City would have fit the parameters of the survey, but didn't make the list.

So what is the small Utah town was designated as the richest? It's East Basin, Utah. Ever heard of it?

Now, East Basin is close to Park City, and even shares the same zip code. But it is a census-designated place some 8 miles northeast of Park City. Its northwest boarder is Interstate 80.

How rich are they in East Basin? The median income there is $170,677 according to Go Banking Rates, and that puts in the middle of the pack in the rankings of the richest small towns. The median home value there is $980,978.
