Region 10 Hoops Game Previews

ESPN 97.7FM - #7 Crimson Cliffs (6-3) at #8 Snow Canyon (7-5)

This is a great matchup.

You get two of the best players in region this year squaring-off in Owen Mackey at Snow Canyon and Jordan Eaton at Crimson Cliffs.

"Crimson brings a lot of size and strength around the basket," said Coach Doug Meacham. "That’s probably our biggest concern is blocking them out and limiting them to one shot and out. Jordan Eaton is such a great scorer at all three levels and we hope to have some guys up to the challenge defensively to make it a little more challenging."

Eaton is averaging 21.6 ppg and has made 18 three pointers this year.

Meacham is pleased with how the Warriors fared in their pre-region schedule.

"Pre-season was good for us in that we found things we needed to work on. In Arizona, at the Visit Mesa challenge we played some high level and relentless pressure teams ( Perry Az ranked #11 in the country and Federal Way, the #1 team in Washington ). We had a shot to win it versus an Ironwood Arizona team and then beat the tournament host ( Mt.View Mesa ) on their court and that was great for our guys. We hope games like those will have us more prepared to go into region play."

FOX SPORTS UTAH 101.9FM in STG and 99.1FM in Cedar - #13 Hurricane (2-7) at #2 Dixie (10-2)

Dixie has lived up to expectations so far this year. There only two losses have come against Farmington and Real Salt Lake Academy.

They are just behind Sky View for the top spot in the RPI.

"I'm very happy with our team's chemistry," said Coach Tyler Roberts. "They have bought into FLYFAM which is everyone playing a role and doing what they do best to help our team win games."

The Flyers are averaging an impressive 22 assists per game while only turning the ball over 8.8 times per contest.

"Tonight I'm just excited to watch these guys play at home," said Roberts. "It's fun watching them play tough defense and execute offensively. We just need to play present and focus on this play."

The Flyers haven't played at home in the Hangar in a month.

KSUB 590 AM - #9 Cedar (5-4) at #3 Desert Hills (7-3)

Some idiot on our staff (namely Lawrence the Pigskin Picking Robot) didn't have Desert Hills in his top 5 in the RPI a couple weeks ago.

The Thunder have won five straight and two of their three losses are to #1 Sky View and #5 Ridgeline.

Desert Hills has pretty balanced scoring this year with three players averaging double figures in scoring (Lincoln Holmes 14.8, Eli Allred 14.6, Chomp Jones 10.0) and Boston Holbrook leading the team in rebounds and assists.

Cedar is going to be a tough matchup to start region play. The Reds have five players averaging 10 points or more per game and share the ball really well with the team averaging 19 assists per game.

"Cedar is a balanced team," said Coach Chris Allred. "They shoot and share the ball well. We will need to stop their transition offense, contest shots and rebound."

This one should go down to the wire in the Thunderdome.
