It was an honor and a privilege.

Nobody thought Utah Tech could keep Joey Hobert after he was the best wide receiver in the country this year: 89 rec / 1249 yards / 16 TD.

The transfer portal is awesome when they are inbound and sucks when they're outbound. Especially a guy like Hobert.

Hobert made catches this year by beating guys out of his breaks, breaking safeties ankles on deep routes down the field, going over defenders in the end zone, getting tip toes in on the sideline, making in traffic catches in the middle and on and on. He had 89 of them after all.

He broke pretty much every single season receiving record at Utah Tech and in a season where he had three different quarterbacks throwing to him.

I think he was the best receiver in the state this year. He would have been BYU's number one guy, especially with Puka Nacua hurt a lot this year and Gunner Romney out. He would have been Utah's best receiver too. The Utes heavy lifting was done by tight ends for the most part. He would have filled the Britain Covey role no problem. Utah State same thing. This isn't just a Power 5 talent, he is a Power 5 difference maker who is still young in his career and will make whichever team picks him up instantly better. He will be on an all-conference team at the end of next season.

I hope somebody in-state is able to nab him or at least a team in the Pac 12 or Big 12.

It was fun while it lasted...
